Jade Gallagher
Striking Liverpool singer/musician – 24 year old Jade Gallagher is turning heads with her compelling voice and haunting tunes. One only has to look at her site to see that Jade has already built up a formidable fan base. In a short space of time, this gal has certainly served her apprenticeship having played on a variety of major tours including Bryan Adams, Van Morrison, Joan Armatrading, Mark Almond, Hanson and the legendary Roger McGuinn, and performing at Guilfest.
She has also performed at the launch of Paul McCartney’s album ‘Chaos and Creation in the Backyard’, has supported Katie Melua, Simon Webbe, Sugarbabes, Westlife and Nate James, as well giving a special performance of her track ‘Miss You Nights’ for Sir Cliff Richard.
For Radio 2 alone she has performed 2 sessions with Friday Night is Music Night, and sessions on the Bob Harris and Dermot O’Leary shows.
Her acoustically driven songs and distinctive voice have drawn comparisons to artists such as Shawn Colvin and Suzanne Vega.
With a Malaysian-Chinese mother and Irish father, Jade was classically trained throughout her teens before opting to concentrate on playing guitar, singing and to try a little writing something that she found to be more liberating in terms of there not being ‘rules’ to follow.
‘I love everything from the classics to r’n’b, but my passion has always been singing whilst playing acoustic guitar’ says Jade. The solitude of her mum’s caravan on the outskirts of Liverpool has been very instrumental in Jade focusing in on her music, this was also to be the inspiration for her debut album ‘Maybe This’.
Some might say it has an edgy feel, but what ever the genre each song contains a certain passion that has a unique quality.
Legendary photographer Mick Rock – known for his iconic shots of Blondie, Kate Moss, David Bowie to name a few – also discovered Jade when he attended a gig in Manchester – Mick saw something in her natural looks and decided to shoot this relatively unknown, the results can be seen in the shot used on her new album sleeve.
Suffice it to say, although a relative newcomer to the scene, this gal has certainly packed in a lot of hard work into a short space of time.
